How To Stay Romantic When You Are Living Together

During the challenges everyone is facing through these hard financial times it can be very easy for couples to let the health of their relationships diminish without realizing it. The stress of making ends meet, unemployment and everyday life can quash a romantic atmosphere. We sometimes forget to show our affection for the person we have chosen to share life with. Passion is pushed aside as we struggle to meet the day to day demands. These problems are just as real for couples that choose to live together as it is for married couples.

It is not that difficult to defeat these relationship difficulties, but it will take effort and repetition. Romance is a simple matter of taking the time to make your partner feel important and appreciated. When the work day is over, try to overcome the desire to throw on a ratty pair of sweats. You dress up to go to work, why not have a nice lounging ensemble to wear at home? Or better still dressing up to spend time together, nothing says desire like looking and smelling good for the person you care about. If you are the first one home, get the washing up done to ease the burden of up-keeping the home, and start preparing dinner as a surprise. Nothing says romance like arriving home to see a nice meal already prepared or close to being so. On the opposite side of the coin, when you arrive home show how happy you are to be there. Ask about their day and refrain from lamenting on the complications of your own, although a natural part of a relationship is sharing stresses, if you can see your partner is making an effort to set a nice mood, follow their lead. Compliment them on how nice they look or how great it is to have dinner ready. Strive to show passion and affection in all that you do.

All of us need to be reassured that we are loved. It is doubly true in relationships. You have chosen to live together and share your lives. It would be a shame to ruin it through lack of something as easy as showing a little devotion and affection. Three words, “I love you”, can do more to strengthen a relationship than you could possibly imagine, as well as a kiss in the morning before parting and when you arrive home at the end of the day. Smile and gently touch their face. Let them know how important they are and how happy you are to have them in your life. Showing love is one of the easiest things we can do and one of the least done in so many partnerships. Even if you know your partner loves you it is essential to be told and shown on occasion.

As we have seen over the years, relationships can be strong, and last many years. However, they are also fragile and must be nurtured to stay the course. Keeping the romance alive and showing true love, appreciation and affection are the primary building blocks of a solid and enduring relationship.
